Ferris and I are leaving today to head to Cincinnati in order to have some tests run on the twins. I have debated on whether to blog about this or not, but I want the Lord to receive glory through this situation and to get your prayers, so here is the lowdown.
There is a condition that about 10% of identical twins get called TTTS (Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome). You can read all about it
here and
here. When this condition isn’t treated, it is very serious. Thankfully, our girls only have a mild case that has progressed very slowly. The girls are actually very healthy. In fact, they are nearing the threshold of having great survivability chances if they have to be born. The tricky thing is, this condition can take a dramatic turn for the worse overnight, so even if the babies look good today, there is no guarantee on what can happen tomorrow.
There is a specialist in Cincinnati who literally is one of the best in the world with this condition. This clinic also is one of only a few that perform a new laser surgery that can be done up to 26 weeks. We turn 27 weeks on Thursday, so if we decide to have the surgery after the consultation, tomorrow is the last day it can happen.
We are thankful the Lord opened up this door to have some of the best people in the world giving us treatment options so that we can make an informed decision about how to proceed. Everything we have gotten so far has been very vague, so something definitive will be nice.
We know that God is working all things out in this situation for the good, and we are incredibly blessed. The lyrics of the song
Sun Stand Still keep coming to mind, that nothing is too hard for our God, and we are resting in that truth. Things right now look good for the twins, but we are doing what
Pastor Steven said during the
Sun Stand Still series, and pray while we push. Doing everything we can do while we trust God to do what only He can do. Please pray that God will give us wisdom and that He will protect the babies and Ferris. We will keep you posted throughout the week.
